Welcome to the latest instalment in our Christmas crafting. We love a good old craft session, and Christmas always inspires us to get making. This year so far we’ve had fun with pom pom pine cones, baking soda dough tree decorations and pine cone trees. With some help from Wynsors we’ve just added a few new creations to our collection.
The lovely people at Wynsors sent us a box of goodies, containing everything we needed for a relaxed family craft session. There was even a pair of fun Tiger slippers for each of the kids.
Also in our box were these cute little fellas; reindeer hot chocolate. Aren’t they great? I’m definitely pinching this idea for homemade presents next year!
Relaxed was very much the theme to our crafting; with this time of year inevitably being so hectic, I think it’s really important to fit in slower-paced family activities wherever we can. It keeps the rising excitement levels under control, and it’s a great way to spend some fun family time together too.
Once we’d got ourselves comfy, we had a look through our craft supplies and chatted about what we might make. There were a couple of craft ideas included which the kids were keen on, so we started with those.
First up was 3D Christmas trees. We rolled a piece of green card into a cone, and secured it with sticky tape.
I made little holes for the LED lights, then the kids decorated them with buttons, pom poms and gems.
Once everything was dry, we threaded the lights through and had the big switch on. I think they look fantastic.
Next, the kids decided to colour in some 3D hanging decorations. These came pre-cut, so they’d be great for younger children to work on without supervision.
A big bag of buttons was used to make button Christmas trees. We found that drawing an outline of the tree shape before starting to glue things down worked well. Inevitably we also got carried away with sorting colours, sizes and shapes.
Our pack also included some lovely glittery card, and the kids decided they wanted to use it to make paper snowflakes. We folded each piece up several times, then they snipped out shapes before unfolding to reveal the finished snowflake.
This is a classic winter craft that never goes out of fashion, I remember doing it as a child and to be honest I enjoyed it just as much this time round!
We still have some card left, so we’re going to make more snowflakes and turn them into a super-sparkly garland.
After all that crafting, we have a very festive house full of homemade treasures. We climbed into our pj’s and rewarded ourselves with a reindeer hot chocolate 
We had a really fun time getting creative with our box of craft supplies; it was great to spend some laid-back family time together, and we’ve got some lovely homemade treasures to add to our collection too.
