Baby services
Yes, you should be choosing a place that can comfortably accommodate each member of your family, but does that place also have the required baby services that you’ll need? When you’re going away, items such as cots and highchairs can be a huge hassle to take with you, or it may simply just not be possible to carry them if you’re travelling by ferry or plane. For that reason, you should always check that your chosen holiday accommodation has these essentials on-hand before you commit to stay there.
Safety
Of course, safety is always of the utmost important for you and your family, so why would you disregard this when you’re on holiday? Check that the accommodation has the required child safety measures in place, such as socket protectors, coverings on low corners, stair guards and locks on the windows and doors. If you’re unsure, there’s nothing stopping you from contacting your accommodation provider beforehand to see how they can help. Mann’s Holidays offers family-friendly cottages to rent in North Wales and are always happy to accommodate those with small children.

Food options
You’ll probably know just as well as anyone how fussy kids can be, so keep this at the forefront of your mind when deciding on the best type of accommodation for your holiday. More often than not, self-catered holiday accommodation works the best for families with small children, as it means you don’t have to worry about finding a place to eat that can heat up baby food or cater to dietary requirements. If self-catering isn’t for you, then make sure you opt for somewhere that is close to a wide variety of restaurants, so that there’s something to suit everyone – including those who won’t eat their greens….

Activities
One of the most difficult parts of going on holiday with small children is knowing how to keep them entertained from the crack of dawn till bedtime. Your holiday should be about spending time together as a family, so try to find a place to stay that is near to a selection of activities for you all to enjoy. These could be outdoor pursuits such as family walks, or staying indoors at the movie theatre on a rainy day. For small kids, things like a play park, local farm or simple outdoor activities will always entertain. And don’t forget to pack a few portable games, puzzles and activity books to keep little ones busy at your accommodation too.

Yourselves
As well as your children, don’t forget to consider yourselves when you’re booking holiday accommodation. After a long day, when the kids are finally asleep, you’ll want to spend time together; perhaps with a takeaway, a movie night or just the chance to have some grown-up conversation! The best way to do this is to choose accommodation that has separate bedrooms, such as a cottage or an apartment; this avoids you having to tip-toe around trying not to disturb the kids, and lets you relax and enjoy your holiday all the more.
What are your tips for choosing really great family holiday accommodation?
