Giveaway: Seedball edible seed range

Welcome to a new giveaway, perfect for foodies or those with one in their life!  I have two great prizes on offer courtesy of the lovely people at Seedball.  Two lucky winners will receive the Seedball ‘edible’ seed range, which includes easy-to-grow salad, herb and herbal tea seed mixes in beautifully presented tins.

You may be wondering what a seedball is, as they’re not very widely known yet as a way of growing from seed.  A seedball is basically a little ball of clay and compost which is packed with seeds.  The dried clay protects the seeds from birds, mice and insects who could otherwise snack on them, it also makes the seeds really easy to scatter.  When the clay becomes damp the seeds begin to germinate, helped along by the nutrients in the compost, there’s also some chilli powder mixed in there to deter predators while the seed is starting to grow.  Clever, isn’t it?

Conservation is at the heart of Seedball; the company was founded by conservation scientists and all products aim to help biodiversity and native species.  The range began with native wildflower seed mixes to encourage bees and butterflies and has now expanded into an edibles range.  Seedball work hard to make their products as sustainable as possible too, with peat-free compost, recyclable packaging and 40% of profits donated to Project Maya, an eco-social enterprise working to build a global network of conservation and sustainability reserves. They even donate seedball mis-shapes to school and community projects – brilliant.

The fact that seedballs are super-easy to scatter on the ground makes them a perfect choice for children to grow.  They are also brilliant if you’re not very confident about sowing seeds ‘properly’ yourself, as you don’t even have to plant them.  Seedballs are ideal for garden beds, containers and window boxes – and their lovely packaging makes them an ideal gift too.  The range of seedball tins includes wildflowers to attract bees and butterflies, a special wildflower mix suited to urban areas, and a new ‘edibles’ range for growing your own herbs, salad or herbal tea.
