The school holidays are in full swing, and it’s the perfect time to get the kids playing outdoors. As you’ll know from this blog, we’re big fans of outdoor activities – they’re a brilliant way to have some healthy family fun, and offer lots of opportunities for creative play too.

There’s a huge range, including play houses, climbing frames, outdoor games, trampolines and sports equipment. Chestnut Tower Wooden Playhouse, £299.99
Part of a wide range of wooden playhouses, the Chestnut Tower Wooden Playhouse is a great option for younger children. The low-level platform gives them an easy introduction to climbing and sliding, while the little playhouse is perfect for imaginative role play. It’s also brilliant for small gardens, as it multi-tasks hard to earn it’s space. I like that it’s really sturdy, and safety has been carefully considered in features such as the wide treads on the ladder, smoothed edges, and the high railing at the front. It’s also pre-treated, so you just install it and you’re ready to go, which is great if you have impatient little explorers on your hands!

Garden Quoits, £17.99
A classic outdoor game, this is brilliant for when there’s a wide age range of players, as older players won’t automatically be better at it. These Garden Quoits are really quick and simple to setup, and come in a carry bag so you can easily take them to the park or the beach. There’s no limit to the number of players or teams, making this a really versatile game which will get lots of use. I just know we’d get plenty of family competitiveness with this one!

1.8m Octagonal Sandpit, £54.99
A sandpit offers so much potential for imaginative outdoor play; when my kids play with sand they always get completely absorbed in things like building, pouring, measuring and creating a fantasy world. This 1.8m Octagonal Sandpit gives kids lots of room to get busy, and having the little seats on the sides frees up more space too. I like the fact that it comes with a PE cover to keep everything clean when it’s not in use.

Aztec Wigwam Play Tent, £59.99
I’m always blown away by how a simple play tent transports kids straight into imaginative play. This gorgeous Aztec Wigwam Play Tent is great for the garden; the thick cotton canvas has a waterproof coating, the sturdy wooden poles fit into pre-sewn pockets to give stable support, and the whole thing is quick and easy to put up and take down. The bright aztec design is quite gender-neutral too, so boys, girls, siblings and varying ages will all be happy playing in it.

Limbo, £26.99
Who can resist a quick game of limbo? This wooden Limbo set has a strong frame making it really stable and durable, and there’s a wide range of peg heights so you can vary the difficulty according to the size of child – or adult! It’s also really wide, so you can play in pairs for a twist on the original game. The whole thing comes in a canvas carry bag, which is great for storage or a trip to the park.

Monmouth Climbing Frame, £879
I’d love to blow the budget on this! A climbing frame combination really does pack so much active play potential into one product, and this Monmouth Climbing Frame is great for a broad range of ages. Younger kids can easily access the platform and slide, while older ones will love the climbing net and swings. It’s definitely an investment purchase, but you’d get so much use out of it for years to come.
I’m feeling very inspired now to make the most of our outdoor space from a play point of view, and will be adding some of these ideas to my garden wish list. My selections here are just a small proportion of the Big Game Hunters outdoor play range, pop over to www.biggamehunters.co.uk to check out lots more ideas and products – and let me know which is your favourite in the comments.
