Now that spring is finally here, a lot of you are probably getting busy kitting your family out for the warmer weather.  We’re in the process of going through the kids’ wardrobes, checking what still fits and making a shopping list for spring and summer.  All this organising means it’s a good time to take a look at the type of clothing retailers like Fashion World have available for children.  Here are some suggestions for what to go for when you’re kitting the kids out for spring adventures.

Practical but lightweight coats

At the moment, it is too cold to go out without a coat. It may be warm and sunny one minute, but when the sun goes behind the clouds it soon turns cold. But often, your child’s winter coat will be too thick and heavy to be practical. They will just get too hot if they wear it while they are playing or walking to and from school.

Ideally, for spring, your kids should have a lightweight coat that is also waterproof and wind resistant. It does not necessarily need a hood, but one would be handy. Statistically, it is far more likely to rain during the spring, so it’s best to be prepared. If there is no hood, pop a wool cap in one of the pockets: wool is surprisingly good at keeping the rain at bay – at least, long enough for them to finish their game and get home!

Waterproof footwear

Often, in spring, it’s too warm for kids to comfortably wear boots. A much better option is trainers, or lightweight walking shoes. However, again be mindful of the rain. If the ones you buy are not waterproof, considering spraying them yourself. If you’re wondering which type of protective spray to use, take a look at this comparison video.

New tops and jumpers

It’s well worth going through each child’s collection of t-shirts, tops, hoodies, and shirts, to see what fits and what doesn’t. Be mindful also of items that they are about to grow out of. Once you’ve done that, you can buy what you need to fill in any gaps.

For spring, it’s usually a good idea to have at least two or three tops your child can wear on days where it is expected to be cold.  If your child has grown out of his or her hoodies and jumpers, be sure to buy some sort of replacement. That way, on the colder days they will have something warm to slip on under their lightweight coat.

A lightweight base layer

It’s also handy for your children to have some base layer items in their wardrobes. When the weather is variable, wool-based long johns and sweater vests are a particularly good option. Because they are made from natural fibres, they make it easier for the body to regulate its temperature. This makes them perfect for wearing on spring days where it’s cold in the morning, but warms up during the day.

New sports kit

As the weather warms up, a lot of kids will start to play more sports again. Don’t forget to check if their sports kits still fits too, so that you can avoid a last-minute dash to the shops when practice starts again!
